Emergency protocols
Jake’s heating crisis flowchart just fell out of my anatomy textbook. Complete with arrows, backup plans, and a note that says “Elena’s comfort = priority one.”

Emergency protocols
I’d forgotten about this little artifact from our heating disaster last winter. Looking at his methodical handwriting now, I can see exactly how we’ve both grown since then. Back then, I would have stressed about imposing on him or felt guilty about the landlord calls. He would have quietly solved everything without telling me his process.

His emergency heating protocol. Still makes me smile.
This time around, we just… handled it. Together. No drama, no hidden resentment, no keeping score. When the heat went out again last month, we automatically fell into this rhythm - I handled the landlord while he researched space heaters, we split the follow-up calls, and neither of us felt like we were carrying the whole load.
Funny how you don’t notice relationship evolution until you find the evidence tucked in a textbook. We’re not the same people who panicked over a broken heater. We’re the people who have backup plans and split responsibilities and make it look easy because we’ve learned how to actually be a team.
